A TV series renamed one of its streets. Years later, residents marched with a slogan that still sums the place up.

Perihan Abla was filmed here from 1986 to 1988. Residents befriended the crew, and the old Ayhan Sokak became Perihan Abla Sokağı [H; rename date M].

When Ekmek Teknesi arrived in the early 2000s, the crews multiplied, sometimes four or five on one street. In 2004 residents protested with the line "Kuzguncuk semttir, set değil": a neighbourhood, not a set.

Today it's wedding photographers instead of film crews; one homeowner hung a sign on his door asking couples to stay away. Researchers point out that the screen version, a timeless Turkish-Muslim mahalle, was itself a kind of set. It left out the Jewish, Armenian and Greek families who made the village.
